McDaniel sets pole vault PR, Mitchell shines in shot

FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Linfield's Olivia McDaniel broke her own personal record winning the pole vault competition in cold, windy and rainy conditions at the Pacific Luau Invitational on Saturday at Hanson Stadium on the Pacific University campus.
 
The 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Champion cleared 13 feet, 1½ inches (4.0m) to break her own outdoor best of 12-6 and move into second all-time on the Linfield Top 10 list. McDaniel trails only school-record holder Catherine Street's mark of 13-11¼ (4.25m). She also owns the best mark in Division III for the 2019 outdoor season.

Women
Nicole Bissey lead a quartet of top-eight finishers in the 5,000m, taking second place in 19:09.71. Ashley Ambrose finished third in 19:34.89, Kelly Roth was fifth in 19:47.30 and Kelsey Kuhns eighth in 19:53.24.
 
Jenna Mihelich ran 1:09.66 to take eighth in the 400m.
 
In the high jump, Tiffany Wall cleared 4-10¾ (1.49m) to finish fourth while Emma Baker cleared 9-4¼ (2.85m) to finish fifth in the pole vault.
 
Sara Miles earned fourth place in the shot put with an effort of 37-8¼ (11.49m) while Josie Knight had a best of 35-9¼ (10.90m) for seventh.

Men
Cody Mitchell cliamed the highest finish for the men, grabbing second place in the shot put with a heave of 48-0 (14.63m). Tyler Post garnered fifth place with his best of 42-11 (13.08m). Mitchell then tossed the discus 131-0¼ (39.93m) to take fourth and Post nabbed fifth with his best of 130-11½ (39.92m). 
The team of Jon Sedy, Brian Douglas, Tony Winters and Payton Person finished fourth in the 4x100m relay with a time of 45.31.

Nick Oja-Zdroy dipped below the two-minute mark in the 800m, crossing the finish line third overall in 1:59.11.

Max Lommen cleared 5-9¼ (1.76m) in the high jump for a third-place finish.

Three Wildcats made the top eight in the long jump, led by Dallin Buck's 21-5¼ (6.53m), good for third place. Brian Douglas following in sixth placde with his leap of 20-3¼ (6.18m) and Travis Kaloa was seventh at 19-10½ (6.06m).

Matt Metcalf picked up a third-place result in the javelin with his toss of 163-5½ (49.82m), then finished seventh in the hammer with a mark of 132-3 ¾ (40.33m).

Linfield plays host for this week's Northwest Conference Multi-Event Championships Monday and Tuesday starting at 9 a.m.. The two-day heptathlon and decathlon championships, set for Linfield's Maxwell Field, count toward each team's NWC championship-meet point totals,. The full team is slated to participate in the Lewis & Clark Invitational on Saturday, April 20.  Meet start time is 9 a.m.
