FOREST GROVE, Ore. – For the second straight day the Linfield Wildcats went into successive overtime periods, this time battling the Pacific Boxers to a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon at Hanson Stadium.
1st Half
The Wildcats started quickly in the match, firing two quick shots in the opening 1:46 to test Boxers' goalkeeper Ariela Bali.
Linfield's final attempt of the half came off the foot of
Mary Cait Moriarty, whose effort in the 45th minute sailed wayward heading into intermission.
2nd Half
Like the opening half, Linfield saw most of the shots directed at the Boxers' goal. The 'Cats came closest to finding the scoresheet when sophomore forward
Sydney Kuehn hit the crossbar with 3:59 left in regulation.
Overtime
Both teams totaled two shots in the first overtime period, but neither was able to send an attempt on frame. Linfield's
Carole Thomas nearly ended the contest when her shot with 3:59 remaining was deflected over the goal by Bali.
Linfield Ledger
Five of Kuehn's game-high eight shots were on goal. Nine other Wildcats were credited with attempts as the Wildcats outshot the Boxers 17-9. Linfield goalkeeper
Madi Reimer made four saves in 110 minutes of action.
Top Boxers
Kayla Mizo tallied a team-high four shots from her midfield position. Bali was an instrumental in keeping the Wildcats scoreless, turning away seven shots.
What It Means
Linfield (8-8-2, 6-6-2 NWC) moves into a two-way tie with George Fox for fifth in the NWC standings. Pacific (0-14-4, 0-11-3 NWC) remains winless in the NWC with just three points this season.
Ahead
The Wildcats conclude the season with a lengthy road trip to eastern Washington. Linfield visits Whitworth Saturday at 11 a.m. before completing its season the following day against the Whitman Blues in Walla Walla.
