Adding to an already long list of accolades, Linfield scholar-athlete Cole Bixenman has been named to the second team CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America Team, as announced Monday.
The 2011 Northwest Conference Player of the Year and Linfield Male Athlete of the Year, Bixenman has maintained a 3.78 cumulative grade point average while majoring in finance. He is set to graduate with his bachelor’s degree Sunday, May 29.
A three-year letterwinner on the baseball team, the senior established himself as one of Linfield’s best. He holds the program record for most career RBI (167) and is tied for the most career home runs (32). In his final season as a Wildcat, he hit .351 with a team-leading 45 RBI and 10 home runs while starting all 44 games at catcher or right field.
His efforts helped the Linfield baseball team win its third conference title in four years to advance to the NCAA regional playoffs. The Wildcats came brutally close to moving on the NCAA Division III Finals, losing to West Coast rival Chapman in the regional championship game by one run.
Bixenman was a three-time academic all-district selection and also a three-time all-NWC honoree.
The all-academic team was selected by members of the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America. The college division includes student-athletes representing NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
