CLAREMONT, Calif. –
Anderson Kelly cut into a three-goal halftime deficit with a strong second-half effort but Linfield men's soccer (0-1-1) fell 3-1 to Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.
Pomona-Pitzer jumped ahead in the 10th minute and added two more first-half goals to send Linfield into the break trailing 3-0.
Ross Vargo produced the Wildcats' first shot on goal in the 13th minute, while Linfield also generated a pair of first-half corner kicks.
The Wildcats came out of the halftime break controlling the possession, recording five of their seven total shots in the second period.
Anderson Kelly broke through in the 58th minute, scoring his first goal of the season off an assist from
Caleb Ishizaka to trim the deficit to 3-1.
Linfield continued to apply pressure but could not close the gap further. The Wildcats finished with a 7-5 advantage in total shots and placed three attempts on goal while earning four corner kicks. Vargo led Linfield with two shots on goal, while Kelly accounted for the Wildcats' other shot on target and lone goal.
