THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. –
Ross Vargo and Linfield men's soccer (0-2-1) struck early and added a late goal, but Cal Lutheran overcame the Wildcats' fast start to win 4-2 on Sunday at William Rolland Stadium.
Vargo put Linfield in front just eight minutes into the match, scoring his first goal of the season to give the Wildcats a 1-0 advantage. Cal Lutheran responded with two goals over the final 10 minutes of the opening half to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.Â
The hosts extended their advantage with goals in the 63rd and 66th minutes before Linfield answered late. Freshman
Brody Dalgaard scored his first goal of his collegiate career in the 81st minute off an assist from
Caleb Ishizaka, cutting the final margin to 4-2.
Linfield finished with 12 shots, placing six on goal, while Cal Lutheran totaled 20 shots and nine on target.
Oli Gaines led the Wildcats with three shots, including two on goal, while Vargo had two shots on target.
Colby Reese recorded five saves in goal for Linfield.
The 'Cats are set for their home debut next Sunday, September 13, at Noon against Walla Walla University at the Linfield Soccer Complex.
