NEWBERG, Ore. – Linfield women's soccer (4-3-1, 2-2-0 NWC) scored twice in the opening half and turned in a strong defensive performance to earn their second shutout win of the weekend, defeating George Fox (1-5-1, 0-4-1 NWC), 2-0.
Lize Rendon opened the scoring in the 21st minute, finishing a chance set up by
Sofia Pietrok and
Lena Caballero Uhtoff for her second goal of the weekend.
Amalie Anderson doubled the advantage just before halftime, finding the net in the 44th minute for her first goal of her collegiate career to send Linfield into the break ahead 2-0.
The Wildcats finished with eight shots, placing five on goal, while holding George Fox to six shots and just one attempt on target.
Maddy France led Linfield with two shots, while Rendon, Anderson,
Sydney Garner and
Natasha Freimuth each put an attempt on goal.
Tati Zahajko played all 90 minutes in goal for the Wildcats, making one save to secure the shutout. Linfield also generated seven corner kicks, including six in the opening half, while the Wildcat defense kept George Fox off the scoreboard throughout the match. It marked Zahajko's second shutout of the season.
The Wildcats ride a two-match win streak into Homecoming weekend, taking on Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran at the Linfield Soccer Complex at 2:45 p.m. each afternoon.
