McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Women's soccer (4-4-1, 2-3-0 NWC) battled unbeaten Puget Sound (8-0-1, 5-0-0 NWC) through a scoreless first half before a second-half goal proved to be the difference, falling 1-0 to the Loggers.Â
The Wildcats offense created an early opportunity when
Lize Rendon fired a shot in the third minute, unable get the shot on frame.
Sofia Pietrok added an attempt in the 17th minute before
Fia Swanson put Linfield's first shot on goal in the 22nd minute. Both defenses remained steady, entering halftime scoreless.
Puget Sound broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute, scoring the match's only goal to take a 1-0 advantage. Linfield continued searching for an equalizer, with
Amalie Anderson providing the Wildcats' best offensive threat in the second half. Anderson recorded two shots, including one on goal.
Linfield finished with six shots and two on target, while Puget Sound totaled 14 shots and six on goal. Swanson and Anderson accounted for the Wildcats' two shots on goal, while Rendon,
Sydney Garner and Pietrok also recorded attempts.
Maddie Funk played all 90 minutes in goal for Linfield, making four saves and holding the visitors scoreless for more than 62 minutes.Â
Women's soccer looks to bounce back tomorrow afternoon against another school from Tacoma, hosting Pacific Lutheran at 2:45 p.m.
