WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Linfield men's soccer (1-3-1, 0-1 NWC) was unable to overcome two early goals against the reigning NWC champion Whitman Blues (2-1-1, 1-0 NWC) on Saturday afternoon.
Whitman jumped ahead with goals in the third and 10th minutes, sending the Wildcats into halftime facing a 2-0 deficit. Linfield was limited to one shot in the opening 45 minutes but pressured in the second half.
The Wildcats produced nine shots in the second half and put six on goal while also earning three corner kicks.
Beckham Poirot led Linfield with two shots on goal, while
Derek Rowe added two attempts and one on target.
Charlie Strong,
Reese Christensen,
Beau Perez and Aaron Nowack also put one shot each on-goal.
Linfield finished with 10 shots, including seven on target, while Whitman totaled 15 shots and five on goal.
Colby Reese played all 90 minutes in goal and made three saves for the Wildcats.
First-year Wildcats
Brody Dalgaard and
Anthony Napoles each picked up yellow cards in the second half of the match.
Linfield returns tomorrow in Spokane, Washington, taking on the Whitworth Pirates at Noon.
