McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield men's soccer (3-4-3, 2-2-1 NWC) put four shots on goal in the opening half but was unable to overcome a first-half penalty kick in a 1-0 defeat against Puget Sound (3-0-4, 2-0-3 NWC) on Saturday.
The Wildcats tested the Puget Sound defense early, with
Caleb Ishizaka and
Oli Gaines putting shots on goal in the opening six minutes.
Johann Singh Sanchez and
Brody Dalgaard added shots on target later in the half, but Linfield was kept off the scoreboard. Puget Sound scored the match's lone goal on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute to take a 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Linfield's defense kept the Wildcats within striking distance throughout the second half despite increased pressure from the Loggers.
Colby Reese made six saves across just over 70 minutes in goal before
Jacob Toves took over and added another save over the final 19:53.
The Wildcats finished with five shots, four on goal, and three corner kicks. Ishizaka, Singh Sanchez, Gaines and Dalgaard each put a shot on target, while

Mens soccer's two-match win streak came to a close, but the 'Cats aim to get back on track tomorrow afternoon, hosting the Pacific Lutheran Lutes at 12 p.m.
