McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield men's soccer (3-5-3, 2-3-1 NWC) kept Pacific Lutheran (7-1-2, 5-0-1 NWC) off the scoreboard for more than 72 minutes before surrendering the match's lone goal in a 1-0 defeat on Saturday.
The Wildcats entered halftime locked in a scoreless tie behind a strong defensive effort.
Jacob Toves made two first-half saves, while
Johann Singh Sanchez,
Beckham Poirot and
Nate Prenovost each generated shots for Linfield.
The defensive battle continued deep into the second half before Pacific Lutheran broke through in the 73rd minute on a counter attack to take a 1-0 lead. Linfield pushed for an equalizer over the closing minutes and generated its lone corner kick in the 78th minute.
Simon Patel put a shot on goal late in the match, but the Wildcats were unable to find the tying score.
Linfield finished with six shots, led by
Brody Dalgaard with two attempts. Singh Sanchez, Poirot, Prenovost and Patel each added one shot, with Patel recording the Wildcats' lone attempt on goal.
Toves played all 90 minutes in goal and made three saves. Linfield limited Pacific Lutheran to just four shots on goal despite the Lutes holding a 12-6 advantage in total shots.Â

The 'Cats compete next in Forest Grove, Oregon, taking on the Pacific Boxers next Friday at 5 p.m. before coming home to host Willamette on Sunday at Noon.
