FOREST GROVE, Ore. --- Women's soccer (3-0-2, 1-0-0 NWC) remains undefeated on the season, earning their third-consecutive win in dominant 3-0 fashion over Pacific (1-3-0, 0-1-0 NWC).
Senior
Lize Rendon has scored a goal in each of the Wildcats three wins this season, adding her third and fourth of the season on Friday. After earning Northwest Conference's Offensive Player of the Week honors, the senior now comfortably sits in second in goals among NWC athletes (4).Â
The Wildcats wasted little time applying pressure, taking the first two shots of the game. The second came off of the foot of Rendon in the 20
th minute, beating the Boxers keeper, and putting the 'Cats up 1-0 early.
Consecutive shots by
Jocelyn Jacobs,
Lena Caballero Uhtoff, and
Mia Curtaz missed the mark in the ensuing ten minutes. Goalkeeper
Alexa Fritz kept the advantage intact before halftime, recording two saves on Pacific shots to keep the 'Cats ahead 1-0 at the break.Â
Linfield maintained the pressure into the second half, although their attempts were unable to get past the Boxers keeper early in the half. In the 75th minute, Rendon doubled the advantage with her second goal of the night, finishing off a well-placed pass from midfielder
Mia Curtaz. The score marked Rendon's fourth goal of the young season and gave Linfield breathing room at 2-0.
The Wildcats weren't done yet. With just under three minutes to play, freshman
Lena Caballero Uhtoff capped off the scoring with her second goal of the season, assisted by
Jocelyn Jacobs in the 88th minute. That final strike sealed a convincing 3-0 victory.
"This was a great conference win on the road to get conference play started. However, I think the players know they have more to give and more the accomplish. We look to focus on the details and continue to improve." said Head Coach
Steve Simmons following the first NWC match of the season.
The Linfield back line, anchored by
Reese Jones,
Sofia Pietrok, and
Jenna Stanley, limited Pacific to just five total shots and three on goal. Fritz finished the evening with three saves, recording her third shutout of the season; sitting atop the NWC standings.Â
Linfield outshot the Boxers 10-5, with a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. Seven of the 'Cats ten shots came from Curtaz (3), Rendon (2), and Caballero Uhtoff (2). A strong start to the season offensively, six Wildcats sit inside the NWC rankings for goals scored. Amalia Tuft's three assists a week ago keeps her tied atop the standings for assists with three.Â
Women's soccer looks to roll the momentum into Sunday's match down in Salem, Oregon, against the Willamette Bearcats. Willamette opened NWC play on Friday night as well, earning a draw with George Fox.Â
