In a release from the Northwest Conference on Wednesday afternoon, five Linfield Wildcats received all-conference honors with two earning Co-Swimmer of the Year awards.
Kai Laitinen,
Sam Postlewait and
Avery Campbell were each named to the All-NWC first team while
Sarah Arpag and
Kirsti Keppo received Co-Swimmer of the Year honors on top of first team selections. Several Wildcats were also named to the All-NWC second team, showing the depth Linfield had in the pool this season.
Keppo impressed yet again throughout her junior season, with her Co-Swimmer of the Year award being the second of her career. She was named to the All-NWC first team in the 500-yard freestyle, 400-yard individual medley and the 1,650-yard freestyle while also making the second team in the 800-yard freestyle relay. In the NWC championships, the Eugene native took the top spot in the 500-yard freestyle for the second straight year and the 1,650-yard freestyle event. She also was the runner-up in the 400-yard individual medley. A product of South Eugene High School, Keppo is majoring in marketing and looks finish her career with a bang next season.
Arpag came on strong for the Wildcats in the latter half of the season, earning her first Co-Swimmer of the Year award. The junior was named to the first team for her performances in the 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard butterfly and made the second team in the 800-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard freestyle relay. She impressed at the NWC championships, taking the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard butterfly while also breaking the school record in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:05.07. A native of Hood River, Oregon, Arpag is majoring in Biology while at Linfield.
Avery Campbell rounds out the NWC all-conference selections on the women's side, earning the selection due to her performances in the 100-yard backstroke and earning second team selection in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Campbell wraps up her career at Linfield with three NWC championships in the 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay, all coming during her sophomore season. Coming out of North Thurston High School, Campbell is an environmental science major.
Laitinen comes in as a freshman for the Wildcats and already has separated himself as a difference maker in the pool for Linfield. He joins the All-NWC first team in the 400-yard individual medley and the 1,650-yard freestyle. In the NWC championships, the rookie surprised many by finishing as the runner-up in the 400-yard individual medley. Hailing from Canby, Oregon, Laitinen is majoring in computer science while at Linfield.
Postlewait also comes in as a freshman, highlighting the bright future for the Wildcats on the men's side. The Newport High School product was named to the first team for key performances in the 100-yard backstroke. He was also named to the second team in the 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard medley relay and 200-yard backstroke. He is majoring in education.
Joining with All-NWC second team selections are
Jack Gallo,
Gavin Smith,
Ivan Tontchev,
Rocco Velie and
Carson Washburn. Gallo gets the nod in the 1,650-yard freestyle and the 200-yard butterfly. Smith joins in the 500-yard freestyle, 400-yard individual medley and the 1,650-yard freestyle. Tontchev makes the list for performances in the 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard medley relay and the 100-yard backstroke. Velie for the 200-yard medley relay, 200-yard individual medley, 400-yard medley relay, 400-yard individual medley and the 200-yard butterfly. Washburn finishes up the list with second team selections in the 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard medley relay, 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle.
On the women's side, the second team selections include
Lauren Bobo-Shisler,
Caley Haydu, Chloe Lazarton and
Kalea Mullins. Bobo-Shisler earned her selection in the 800-yard freestyle relay, 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle relay and the 100-yard freestyle. Haydu joins the list in the 200-yard freestyle relay while Lazarton makes it in the 500-yard freestyle and the 1,650-yard freestyle. Mullins registers for her races in the 800-yard freestyle relay, 200-yard individual medley and the 400-yard individual medley.
The Wildcats closed the season at the NWC Swim Championships where both the men's and women's teams placed fourth.
