With six minutes remaining in the match, and Linfield down 2-1 to Caltech, lighting struck, sending the players to their benches and causing a 30-minute delay. After the delay, Linfield took command of the Linfield Soccer Complex with
Julia Alvarez tying the match in the final minute off a beautiful assist from
Rae Gerking for a 2-2 finish.
The final goal from Alvarez came after a goal in the first half by Gerking with
Mia Curtaz and
Sofia Pietrok getting credited for the assists. Curtaz added a team high three shots.
McKenzie Heckman and
Jocelyn Jacobs also played a crucial role in the match, each totaling two shots.
Defensively,
Alexa Fritz played all 90 minutes for Linfield and recorded one save.
The Beavers were led by midfielder Marie Choi-Schattle who did a little bit of everything for Caltech, finishing with four shots and both of the Beavers' goals.
While Linfield's two-game winning streak came to an end Friday night, the heroics of freshman
Julia Alvarez saved the Wildcats from adding their first loss of the season.
