McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Puget Sound played spoiler on Linfield's Senior Day after topping the Wildcats 12-11 at Roy Helser Field on Sunday afternoon. The 'Cats saw their eight-game winning streak come to an end with the loss.
Nick Holm's two hits extended his Northwest Conference game-hitting streak to 11.
Jackson Bui etched his name into the Linfield record books after reaching base four times via walk, tying the program record.
On offense, the 1-4 batters in the Linfield lineup that included
Jake Hoskins,
Danny Kahn,
Elijah Maris and Holm combined for eight of the 14 total hits.
Trent Wainfeld added three hits while
Brett Joner chipped in two.
Logan Travis (1-1) was tagged with the loss after giving up three earned runs in one inning of work.
Jacob Swenson had his shortest outing since mid-March only going three and one thirds innings.
Brett Harvey (6-2) earned the win for Puget Sound. Davis Franklin paced the offense with four hits and three RBIs with four other Loggers totaling two RBIs. Franklin and Jack McCullar each hit a home run for Puget Sound. The Wildcats edged the Loggers (15-19, 7-11 NWC) in total hits 14-13.
The Loggers greeted Swenson with a three-run home run in the first frame before adding two more in the fourth. The Wildcats responded with two runs in the bottom of the first, ultimately taking the 6-5 lead in their half of the fourth inning behind a four-run burst.
Puget Sound punched back with four runs in the fifth inning to pull ahead 9-6. The Loggers then added three more runs across the sixth and seventh innings. The 'Cats clawed within one after scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth before Holm flew out to center to close the game.
