NEWBERG, Ore. – Linfield won its sixth straight game in an 11-2 victory over George Fox on Wednesday afternoon at the Curtis and Margaret Morse Athletic Fields. The Wildcats' bats continue to be red-hot after surpassing double-digit hits for the fifth straight game after totaling 13 hits on the day.
Offensively,
Trent Wainfeld,
Matthew Lewis and
Nick Holm each mashed a home run. Wainfeld and
Elijah Maris led the team in hits with three each while Holm posted a game-high three RBIs. In a bullpen effort for the 'Cats that saw nine different pitchers touch the rubber,
Matthew Tacheny (1-0) was credited with the win.
Noah Meffert led the George Fox offense with three hits. Jared Miller and Meffert accounted for the only two Bruins RBIs. Jack Galanida (0-2) was tagged with the loss. George Fox (18-15) left 11 runners stranded on base.
The Wildcats pounced on Bruins starter Galanida to the tune of five runs in the first inning. Lewis' two-run home run added two to the Linfield lead after the second frame. The Wildcats and Bruins traded single runs in the third and fourth innings.
The 'Cats and Bruins plated one more run each in their halves on the seventh inning. Holm's two-run blast in the eighth pushed the Linfield lead to nine.
Logan Travis,
Casen Reed and
Steve Kovac held the Bruins without a hit in the last two and a third innings.
