TACOMA, Wash. – Freshman
Jacob Swenson's complete game on the mound powered Linfield to a series sweep of Pacific Lutheran after winning the series finale 4-3 at the Pacific Lutheran Baseball Field on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats have won five straight games. Swenson (3-1) pitched seven innings or more in his fourth straight outing and has totaled seven strikeouts in three of the last four games.
On offense,
Nick Holm's consecutive Northwest Conference games with a hit moved to eight while
Elijah Maris posted a game-high four hits.
Matthew Lewis,
Hunter Klingelhoffer and
Trent Wainfeld all posted two hits apiece. The Wildcats outhit Pacific Lutheran for the third straight game 14-7.
Rutger Youch and Ashton Barton paced the Lutes with two hits each. Hayden Kaiser and Barton hit the games only home runs. Kamryn Swartz (1-3) was given the loss after giving up the go-ahead run. Pacific Lutheran (11-21, 6-12 NWC) left eight runners stranded on base.
Wainfeld's single to left field drove in the first two runs for Linfield as the 'Cats jumped out to an early lead in the second inning. The Wildcats plated another run in the fifth inning to increase their lead to 3-0. Pacific Lutheran's two home runs in the sixth inning tied the contest at three.
Maris' single to left field put Linfield back in front after Wainfeld came across to score. Swenson gave up only two more hits across the final three frames.
