McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield grabbed the lead early and never looked back in a 12-4 win victory over visiting Pacific on a cold, rainy Saturday afternoon at Roy Helser Field. The Wildcats drew 14 walks marking the second most walks in a single game in program history.
Tyler Marr led the Linfield offense with three hits and six RBIs, including a home run.
Camden Oram (2-1) was credited with the win after pitching six innings, striking out seven batters and only allowing one earned run.
Behind Marr,
Elijah Maris scored four runs and tallied the other extra-base hit for Linfield.
Jake Hoskins,
Danny Kahn and
Matthew Lewis each added one hit.
Matt Gibbs led the Pacific offense with two hits and two RBIs with a home run coming in the eighth inning. Dawson Tokishi was the only other Pacific player with a hit. Will Clark lasted only one and one-third innings before being pulled. Clark (1-1) was tagged with the loss and gave up four earned runs while seeing 14 Linfield batters.
The Wildcats pounced on Pacific (5-2, 0-1 NWC) in the first two frames. Linfield knocked out Pacific's starting pitcher and took advantage of six Boxer errors to jump out to a big 8-0 lead. Linfield increased its lead with two runs in each of the fifth and seventh innings.
Pacific's best offensive frame came in the top of the eighth as they plated three runs with two coming off Gibbs' homerun. From there,
Matthew Tacheny's final inning of work put the finishing touches on a dominant performance by Linfield.
