Linfield faces Puget Sound in Tacoma, hosts Willamette

THE RECORDS
Linfield sits fifth in the Northwest Conference after splitting last week's games against Lewis & Clark and Pacific Lutheran. The Wildcats are 10-9 overall and 5-5 in NWC play. The 'Cats open this week with a trip to Tacoma, Wash., on Feb. 2 to face Puget Sound (13-6, 7-3 NWC) at 6 p.m. Before closing the week on Feb. 3 at home against Willamette (12-7, 9-1 NWC) at 4 p.m.
 
LINFIELD AT A GLANCE
The Wildcats average 59.5 points per game which ranks fifth in the conference. Linfield ranks inside the top four in combined team rebounds (763), team offensive rebounds (11.2 per game) and tops the NWC in team defensive rebounds (550). Miki Vermeulen leads the charge on the glass, averaging the second-most rebounds per game with 9.2 per contest. Eve Burke also ranks among the NWC leaders with 6.3 rebounds per game. On offense, Eve Burke (10.5) and Gillyan Landis (10.3) each average over double figures while Ella Koebelin (8.9) also sits on the conference leaderboard. Koebelin leads the 'Cats in assists at 3.1 assists per game and is one of eight players in the NWC with a positive assist-to-turnover ratio. Vermeulen (40%), Landis (43%) and Burke (44%) all rank among the NWC in field goal percentage. 
 
PUGET SOUND AT A GLANCE
The Loggers average the second most points in the NWC at 66.8 points per game while giving up 58 per game to opponents. Puget Sound averages the most three-point makes per game as a team with eight. Kennedy Brown leads the Loggers with 12.9 points per game with Paige Gerhart not far behind at 12.2. Katie Minnehan leads the effort on the glass, averaging 7.1 rebounds per game with Brown the next closest at 6.6. On defense, Minnehan leads the conference in steals per game at 3.5.
 
WILLAMETTE AT A GLANCE
The Bearcats average 65.3 points per game while surrendering 62.6 to opponents. Willamette tops the conference in field goal percentage, shooting just over 43 percent and leads in three-point percentage at 32 percent. Elyse Waldal leads the offense with 12.8 points per game with Carolyn Ho (10.7) and Kaitlin Imai (10.5) also averaging double figures. Ava Kitchin leads the Bearcats in rebounds per game at 5.9. Defensively, Ho ranks second in the NWC in steals per game at 2.8.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Linfield lost the first matchup 68-61 against Puget Sound in McMinnville on Jan. 6. The Wildcats are 11-42 all-time against the Loggers, including a 2-8 record in the last 10 meetings. The 'Cats are looking for their first road win against the Loggers since the 2019-20 season.
 
The Wildcats fell in the first matchup to Willamette 66-49 in Salem on Jan. 5. Linfield is 41-40 all-time against the Bearcats. The Wildcats have beaten the Bearcats in two out of the last three meetings in McMinnville and hold a 26-13 all-time record at home against Willamette.
