MCMINNVILLE, Ore, - Linfield concluded its 2024 home schedule with a 3-1 loss to Willamette on Senior Day at the Linfield Soccer Complex on a chilly Saturday morning.
Willamette opened the scoring in the 10th minute when Sean Kim found the back of the net, assisted by Drew Alexander and Paddy Bell. In the 31st minute, Drew Alexander doubled the Bearcats' lead, finishing off a play set up by Andrew Reed and Evan Mariscal.
After the early setback, the Wildcats got to work, with
Ross Vargo scoring the team's lone goal in the 40th minute. Vargo's goal came after a scramble in the box with the sophomore gaining control just outside of the box before streaking the ball into the top left corner of the net, cutting Willamette's lead to 2-1 just before halftime. Despite the momentum shift, the Bearcats added another goal in the second half to seal the win.
Linfield goalkeeper
Jacob Toves was busy throughout, recording seven saves, including five in the first half to keep his team within striking distance. Toves played the entirety of the match.
Sid Kosaris and
E.J. Sablan directed the Linfield attack with five shots each while Vargo and
Sam Haynes contributed two shots of their own. Both of Haynes' shots were on target and nearly netted Linfield another goal.
Patrick Moes also finished the match with a shot on target in 13 minutes played.
Senior Day celebrations highlighted the occasion, with the team honoring their senior players, including
Keegan Brooks,
Cameron Gaines,
Anson Agapay and
Wyatt Ackermann.
