PASADENA, Calif. – There's no question Linfield entered its season-opening match against Caltech with an aggressive mindset. The Wildcats attacked the host Beavers early and often on Friday afternoon. Freshman
Jocelyn Jacobs broke through with the first goal of her career in the 50th minute, giving the Wildcats an initial advantage. After Linfield led for most of the second half, Caltech scored nearly 30 minutes later to tie the contest at 1. The match ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw.
Offensively, Linfield dominated in shots on goal (5-2), corner kicks (7-2) and total shots (13-4). But the Beavers' Kathryn Thompson's fed Jennifer Solgaard for the equalizer in the 78th minute.
Jacobs led the charge offensively. She sent a shot on goal in the first two minutes of the match, one of four total shots on the day. Three of her four shots counted on target.
Anna Dazey provided some additional offensive punch for the starting group by firing in three shots.
Alexa Fritz earned the start in goal, playing all 90 minutes and getting credit for a save in the second half.
Defender
Bella Hanna was the only other Linfield player to play the full match as Linfield rotated in six substitutes. Off the bench, Lia Mecko and
Mia Arellano each attempted one shot on goal.
