NEWBERG, Ore. – Linfield held George Fox to six goals in the second half, but the Wildcats fell to their Yamhill County rivals by a score of 19-3 Saturday at the Austin Sports Complex.
The first-place Bruins shut out the Wildcats in the first half, going into the break up 13-0.
Gabby Crist put the 'Cats on the board at the 13:37 mark in the third quarter with an unassisted goal.
The freshman Crist scored all three of Linfield's goals. She fired in her second goal of the afternoon later in the third quarter and added another one in the fourth quarter. Fellow freshmen
Maizri Chandler and
Joelle Tran dished out assists on Crist's second and third goals, respectively.
Chandler and
Grayce Miller picked up three ground balls apiece. Miller led the 'Cats with four caused turnovers while Crist had four draw controls to lead the way.
George Fox piled on 29 shots, 28 landing on goal. The Bruins held lopsided advantages in ground balls (28-16) and draw controls (20-6). Carleigh DeLapp, Ava Bluhm and Lana Davis all scored four goals while Kyra Barnes led all players with four assists. Marena Tharpe finished with six ground balls.
Tenley Hodge made six saves in the first half for Linfield before being replaced by
Caity Babcock in goal after halftime. Babcock made three saves. Emma Webb played the full 60 minutes in goal for George Fox, making five saves on her way to earning the win.
