TACOMA, Wash. –
Katie Phillips had four hits and drove in five runs, leading the Linfield Wildcats to a decisive doubleheader sweep of the Puget Sound Loggers Friday afternoon at Logger Field.
The seventh-ranked Wildcats pushed their current win streak to eight games while raising their season record to 27-3 and 17-1 in the Northwest Conference. The Loggers slipped to 9-18 overall, 6-16 in conference play.
GAME 1: Linfield 9, Puget Sound 0, 6 innings
The Wildcats outhit the Loggers 10-2 and capitalized on three UPS errors to win the series opener with relative ease.
Phillips laced two doubles and drove in four runs,
Ashley Sutton tapped two singles and a double, and
Kaili Saathoff scored twice while going 2 for 3 at the plate.
Tayah Kelley rolled up 12 strikeouts while refusing to yield a single walk. With the six-inning complete-game victory, Kelley improved to 17-0 in the circle.
The 'Cats hung five runs on Loggers pitcher Sam Bland in the first inning and never looked back. Bland managed just a single strikeout to fall to 2-7.
Emily Moore and Hailee Ueyama accounted for the Loggers' two hits in the game.
GAME 2: Linfield 8, Puget Sound 1
Phillips,
Katrina Johns,
Cydney Hess and
Baily Paul all had two hits to carry the 'Cats to their eighth straight series win over the Loggers. Paul contributed a pair of stolen bases while also scoring two runs.
In the circle,
Tyler Warden held the Loggers scoreless until the sixth inning when Puget Sound notched its only run of the afternoon, that coming on a home run by Sofia Gonzalez. Warden struck out four Loggers and walked one before turning the game over to
Hailey Wadsworth to start the seventh. Wadsworth fanned two of the final three batters to secure the win.
