Linfield drops non-conference night game to Carroll

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield put up a fight in the second half but couldn't come all the way back in a 14-8 loss to Carroll (Wis.) Monday night at the Linfield Lacrosse and Soccer Complex.

Carroll outscored Linfield, 3-0, in the first quarter. Freshman Gabby Crist, the reigning Northwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week, put the Wildcats on the board with a goal in the opening minute of the second quarter. But the Pioneers ended the half on a 4-0 run to go into the break up by six.

The Wildcats notched five goals in the third period to trim the Pioneers' lead to three. The Pios returned the favor down the stretch to run away with a six-point decision in the first meeting between the two programs.

Linfield outshot Carroll, 29-25, with 19 shots on goal. The 'Cats held an advantage in ground balls (8-5), caused turnovers (18-14) and draw controls (14-12) but had a difficult time finding the back of the net thanks to 11 saves from Pioneer goalkeeper Alicia Van Dale.

Crist and Maizri Chandler scored three goals apiece to lead the Linfield attack. Crist finished with 10 shots and as many draw controls. Mackenzie Kulick and Erynn McCurdy rounded out the team's scorers.

Trina Hardin registered a game-high six goals and three assists for the Pios. Janu Patel scored four goals while Abby Stas had two. Hardin and Stas combined for nine draw controls.

Caity Babcock played the full 60 minutes for the third time this season. She made six saves just hours after being named the NWC Defensive Player of the Week.

NEXT
Linfield (2-6, 2-4 NWC) will have 12 days of rest before returning to NWC play at home against the eastern Washington schools on March 25-26.
