Linfield topped by Whitman in straight sets

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Linfield played its penultimate match against Whitman on Friday night in Walla Walla, Wash. The Blues had nearly three players finish with double-digit kills en route to a straight-set victory 17-25, 19-25, 12-25.
 
The Wildcats (8-14, 4-11) combined for 24 kills, on a .071 hitting percentage, 41 digs, 22 assists, four serving aces and one block.
 
Nora Myre led the offense with seven kills while Araeya Watanabe was close behind with six. Claire Johnson tallied 18 assists and Paige Richards led the defense with 13 digs.
 
The Wildcats and Blues each finished with double-digit kills as a team. However, Whitman's four aces in the set combined with a hitting percentage of .387 guided the home side to an opening set win.
 
The Blues then totaled their highest total kills of the match with 16 in the second set and stifled the Linfield offense with four blocks. The 'Cats couldn't find a rhythm to get back in the match hitting -.148 in the final set with Whitman totaling 10 more kills in the frame.
 
Whitman (7-16, 6-10) totaled 45 kills, on a .294 hitting percentage, 51 digs, 36 assists, six serving aces and eight blocks.
 
Kenzie Martinez led the Blues with 13 kills while Lilli Thompson and Nicole Kelly each finished with nine. Teia Magaoay totaled 31 with Nicole Kelly posting a game-high 14 kills.
