PORTLAND, Ore. – Linfield put together a strong 40-minute performance against Division-I Portland State on Sunday afternoon at the Viking Pavilion.
Cade Collins and
Joshua Ryan tallied 16 and 11 points respectively as the Vikings pulled away late to top the Wildcats 70-53.
The Wildcats outrebounded the Vikings 43-35. Linfield finished 38% from the field and 36% on three-point attempts.
Chase Bennett and
Danilo Petrovic added six points each and combined for 10 rebounds.
Portland State shot 41% from the field and 35% from behind the arc. KJ Allen (18) and Kendall Munson (10) paced the Vikings' scoring. The Vikings (3-0) turned 19 Linfield turnovers into 26 points.
The Wildcats weathered an early 14-0 Vikings run and eventually tied Portland State late into the first half. Collins and Ryan combined for 15 of the 23 Linfield first-half points as the Wildcats entered halftime down nine. The Wildcats outrebounded the Vikings 22-17 in the first half.
Linfield (0-2) continued to hang around in the second half and closed back within 10 on multiple occasions. The Vikings slowly pulled away late in the half, outsourcing the Wildcats 20-13 in the final eight minutes to close out the win. Collins scored 11 points in the second half while
Jackson Dupree added five.
