McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Linfield put pressure on the Whitworth back line early and found the back of the net twice in the first half, riding an early lead to a 2-1 win at the Linfield Soccer Complex. The Wildcats improved to 4-3-3 and 2-2-2 in the Northwest Conference, beating the Pirates (2-5-3, 2-4-0 NWC) for the first time since 2019.
The Wildcats combined for seven shots, six on goal, two corner kicks and 19 fouls.
Emilee Miller recorded three saves and
Riley Omonaka and
Anna Dazey led the offense with a goal each.
Sidra Griffin and
Kathryn Pearson led the team by playing all 90 minutes.
Linfield was the aggressor early and Omonaka capitalized on a penalty kick in the opening 10 minutes to put Linfield ahead. Dazey quickly doubled the lead with an unassisted goal in the 15th minute.
The Pirates cut the lead in half after Laura Pierson scored in the 58th minute with an assist from Baylee Trejo. Linfield almost scored a third goal but was later disallowed due to a foul.
The Pirates finished with nine shots, four on goal, four corner kicks and 11 fouls. Goalkeeper Kate Nelson recorded four saves.
