Those are just a few nicknames
Keaton Wood has obtained over the course of his final collegiate season. Now, the graduate student from Lake Oswego, Oregon, can add West Region Men's Field Athlete of the Year to the list.
Â
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) named its Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year on Tuesday, and on the list was Wood, who will compete at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio, along with teammates
Matt Metcalf and
Jerrica Pachl. Wood, who qualified in the men's decathlon, will be making his third trip to nationals with a Division III-leading score of 7,254 points achieved at the Jim Klein Multi-Events in March.
Â
The performance in the decathlon at the Jim Klein Multis, which set a new school record, earned Wood recognition as the USTFCCCA NCAA Division III Men's National Athlete of the Week. Wood has posted personal bests in 11 events this outdoor season. He won the 110-meter hurdles at the NWC Outdoor Championships while also running in two winning relays en route to being named the Men's Track Athlete of the Meet.
Â
The runner-up in the men's heptathlon at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, Wood will look to claim All-America status once again at nationals, this time in the decathlon, which will begin at 11:30 a.m. EDT on Thursday.
