Wildcats bounce back with sweep of Pioneers

PORTLAND, Ore. – Kamryn Mobley and Tayah Kelley powered the 12th-ranked Linfield Wildcats to a pair of Northwest Conference wins over Lewis & Clark Tuesday at the Huston Sports Complex.

Linfield (23-5, 15-1 NWC) piled up 18 hits during a 15-4 romp in Game 1 before ace pitcher Tayah Kelley fended off a resilient Lewis & Clark effort for a 5-4 victory in Game 2.

The Wildcats rebounded from their first consecutive regular-season defeats in four seasons, completing a four-game sweep of the Pioneers (10-16, 5-11 NWC).

Mobley hit a home run in each game, went 5 for 6 at the plate, stole two bases and scored five times. Kelley (15-2) pocketed two pitching wins over the Pioneers, less than a week after taking a pair of losses on the same day following a 13-0 start.

GAME 1: Linfield 15, Lewis & Clark 4, 5 innings
Five different players hit home runs, one short of equaling the program's single-game record.

Mobley went 4 for 4 with a double, a home run, and four runs scored. Katie Phillips, Brynn Nelson, Abi Proffitt and Ashley Sutton also pounded the ball out of the park as Linfield built leads of 4-1 after one complete inning and 11-2 after 3½ innings.

The Wildcats' 18 hits marked the seventh-highest single-game total in program history. Proffitt enjoyed a 3-for-3 plate performance while Phillips, Nelson, Chloe McDaniel and Katrina Johns also notched multi-hit games.

L&C pitcher Cassidy Crusberg suffered the loss in a starting role to fall to 1-5. She gave up 12 hits and nine earned runs before being replaced by Kylie Hill in the sixth inning.

GAME 2: Linfield 5, Lewis & Clark 4
Nelson, a freshman from Bonney Lake, Washington, blasted her second home run of the game in the first inning, a three-run shot to left field.

After Lewis & Clark plated a run in the second inning to cut the Wildcats' lead to 3-1, Mobley made her presence felt once more, blasting what would stand as the winning run in the third inning. Her two-run homer drove in Claire Seats.

Johns and Phillips both had two hits and finished the day with four hits each.

Pioneers starter Alyssa Abe (8-9) took the loss. She allowed eight hits and one walk while striking out three Wildcats. Mari Alvarez had three of the Pioneers' nine hits.

AHEAD
Linfield heads to Tacoma, Washington, for a four-game weekend series at Pacific Lutheran. The Wildcat and Lutes meet Saturday for a noon doubleheader followed by a twinbill on Sunday starting at 11 a.m.
