McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Linfield men's tennis team lost 8-1 Sunday to the Concordia Texas Tornadoes at home, showing flashes of strength at times but eventually suffering their fourth straight loss.
The loss dropped the young Wildcat squad to 2-6 on the season while Concordia Texas improved to 6-1.
DOUBLES
The Tornadoes took control of the match from the start, taking the No. 1 doubles flight 6-1 with Joshua Bode and Adrian Munguia topping
Rogue Stone and
Nick Gabelman.
In the No. 2 flight
Cody Pickar and
Matous Young were competitive against Concordia Texas's Esteban Arredondo and Andres Padilla, but eventually fell 6-3.
Doubles play wrapped up with
Isaac Milner and Solomon Abraham losing to Jorge Garcia and Evan Pena Jr. 6-0 in the No. 3 flight.
SINGLES
Stone battled hard through the entirety of the No. 1 flight of singles play, taking Bode all the way to a third tiebreaker set but eventually dropping the contest 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.
In the No. 2 flight Arredondo managed to handle Gabelman 6-1, 6-2 to clinch the match win for the Tornadoes at 5-0, while Young fell to Garcia 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 3 flight.
Playing the final three flights in quick sets to four, Padilla took the No. 4 flight against Pickar 4-1, 4-1 while Milner fell to Nico De La Pena 4-1, 4-0 in the No. 5 flight.
The Wildcats were able to pick up their lone point of the match in the final contest of the day when
Alexandre Collard defeated Jesse West 5-4, 4-2 in the No. 6 flight for Collard's first collegiate win.
NEXT
Linfield returns to Northwest Conference play next weekend with a trip to Tacoma to take on Pacific Lutheran (2-4, 0-3) on March 19 and Puget Sound (0-4, 0-2) on March 20. They'll then take the following weekend off before hosting Willamette (0-4, 0-2) on April 2.
