Wildcats eye first win of season against Bruins

Linfield lacrosse looks to bounce back this week as the Wildcats host Yamhill County rival George Fox at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Linfield Lacrosse and Soccer Complex. Live coverage will be provided by the Linfield Sports Network with play-by-play commentary from Logan Clizer.

Linfield enters the week at 0-1 after a 17-11 home loss to Puget Sound in the season opener on Feb. 26. George Fox is 1-0 on the season after a 19-6 rout of Redlands in Newberg on Feb. 19.
 
LINFIELD AT A GLANCE
Sophomore Abby Ross carried the load against Puget Sound with seven goals on 11 shots, seven on goal. She had nine draw controls in the match. Freshmen Maya Wright and Amelia Wright and seniors Maia Rezoski and Josie Duey also notched goals for the Wildcats. The two Wrights finished with four shots apiece, all on goal. Freshman Caity Babcock played 36 minutes in goal, making six saves in her first collegiate start.
 
GEORGE FOX AT A GLANCE
The Bruins scored eight goals in the first quarter and never looked back in their season-opening win over Redlands. Marena Tharpe and Andrea Garcia-Milla led the team with four goals apiece. Garcia-Milla also dished out three assists. Kyra Barnes was right behind with three goals to go with a pair of assists. Tharpe and Barnes finished tied for the match high with seven shots. Ella Rand earned the win in goal after making four saves in 45 minutes.
 
THE SERIES
Linfield is looking to claim its first-ever victory over George Fox. The Bruins have won all 14 meetings, including eight in McMinnville. The Bruins took both matches in 2021, winning 18-6 and 17-7 with both meetings taking place on the Wildcats' home turf.
