McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Linfield women's basketball team hung with cross-county rival George Fox for two quarters, but the Bruins took off in the second half to down the Wildcats 61-47 Friday night at Ted Wilson Gymnasium.
The score was tied 12-12 after the first quarter, but George Fox outscored Linfield 15-9 in the second quarter to take a six-point lead into halftime. The Bruins went off for 24 points out of the break while limiting the Wildcats to 11 in the third quarter to extend their lead. The 'Cats outscored the Bruins 15-10 in the final period, but it was too late as the Bruins ran away with the 14-point victory.
George Fox shot 32.7 percent from the field, 45 percent from three-point range and 76.2 percent from the free throw line. The Bruins' night was highlighted by 53.3 percent shooting in the third quarter, a period that saw them make 5 of 6 from beyond the arc.
Cassidy Posey led George Fox with 12 points on 4 of 9 shooting, including 2 of 3 from outside. She also went 2 for 2 from the free throw line, grabbed two rebounds and had a steal. Erin Yoshitake also finished in double figures with 11 points while three Bruins scored seven points.
The home team had the game's top two scorers in freshmen forwards
Gillyan Landis and
Elyse Waldal. Landis finished just short of her second career double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds to go with four blocks and a steal. Landis made three of the 'Cats' five three-pointers. Waldal dropped 13 points on 6 of 9 from the field with a three-pointer while junior forward
Alexis Heald scored six points.

George Fox improved to 11-10 overall and 7-5 in Northwest Conference play to stay in fourth place. The 'Cats fell to 1-21 overall with a 1-13 NWC mark with the loss. The 'Cats will end their season next week, playing at Pacific Lutheran on Friday before hosting Willamette on Senior Day on Saturday.
