Linfield opens NWC slate against in-state foes

CATZONE CREW T-SHIRT GIVEAWAY
Linfield athletics will be giving away Dutch Bros Catzone Crew T-shirts to the first 100 Linfield students at Friday's basketball doubleheader against George Fox. Students are encouraged to wear the shirts during the game and cheer on the Wildcats as they take on their rivals from Newberg. The women's game will tip off at 6 p.m. (PST) while the men play at 8 p.m.

THE RECORDS
Linfield heads into Northwest Conference play just under the .500 mark with a 2-3 overall record. George Fox enters the week at 1-2 while Pacific is off to a 4-1 start to the season.
 
LINFIELD AT A GLANCE
The Wildcats went 2-0 at Pacific's Ken Schumann Classic with wins over Oglethorpe and Caltech. Gillyan Landis leads the 'Cats with 12.5 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. The sophomore is shooting 42.9 percent from the field in four starts. Senior Jordan Worthington has provided a boost from the bench, ranking second on the team with eight points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Rowan Cusack has 10 assists and 10 steals on the young season while Riley Cusack has connected on 4 of 8 from three-point range. 
 
GEORGE FOX AT A GLANCE
The Bruins are coming off their first win of the season, a 55-45 affair at Warner Pacific on Nov. 19. The team is led offensively by Ella Roberts and Emily Stephens. Roberts is shooting 48 percent from the field, averaging 12 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Stephens has connected on 54.5 percent of her shots, putting up 9.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game to go with five steals. Jordan Ryan leads the Bruins with six rebounds per game.
 
PACIFIC AT A GLANCE
Pacific rattled off four straight wins to begin the season before falling to Redlands by one point on Nov. 26. Offensively, the Boxers will rely heavily this year on Brilie Kovaloff. The senior is scoring 17.6 points per game, shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from beyond the arc. Sydney Gray stands at nine points per game while Danica Schmidt leads the team with 8.2 rebounds per game and 10 blocks. Rilee Price has a team-leading 26 assists and 11 steals.
 
HISTORY
Linfield is 22-63 in the all-time series with George Fox. Fourteen of those wins came at home. The Wildcats are looking for their first win over their rivals from Newberg since a 51-50 thriller at Ted Wilson Gymnasium during the 2006-07 season.
 
Pacific owns a narrow 41-39 advantage in the series with Linfield. The Wildcats are 15-23 in Forest Grove and are averaging 63.14 points per game against the Boxers. The Boxers have won five straight meetings. The last win for the 'Cats came in a 52-50 contest in McMinnville in 2020-21.
