WSOC Academic All-District

Six Wildcats earn Academic All-District honors from CSC

Showing excellency on the pitch and in the classroom, six members of the Linfield University women's soccer team earned their ways to the 2022 College Sports Communicators NCAA Division III Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team, announced Tuesday.

Seniors McCall Bennion, Laney Green and Megan Sweeney, juniors Ellie Friedrichsen and Riley Omonaka and sophomore Emily Hyde were all acknowledged by CSC, formally known as the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Northwest Conference was represented on the Academic All-District Team by 27 players across six institutions. Linfield, Pacific Lutheran, Whitworth and Willamette all had six selections. Puget Sound had two honorees on the list while Pacific had one to round out the group.

Green played in all 20 of the Wildcats' matches, starting in 18 in her senior campaign. She finished the season ranking tied for sixth in the NWC with seven goals while also adding an assist to lead the team with 15 points. She scored three game-winners and turned in a pair of two-goal performances to earn a second straight all-conference selection.

Bennion started in five of her 14 matches, totaling 562 minutes played. She dished out two assists in the Wildcats' 11-1 season-opening rout of Multnomah on Sept. 1. Sweeney started in 10 of her 11 appearances to help bolster the Linfield backline, playing the full 90 minutes on two occasions.

Friedrichsen registered six shots, three on goal, in 726 minutes. She notched two goals on the season, coming in non-conference matchups against Multnomah and North Central on Sept. 9. Omonaka was 10th on the team in minutes played with 938. She played in all 20 matches, receiving starting assignments in 10 of those contests. Omonaka was tied for second on the team with three assists.

Hyde was a utility player for the 'Cats, seeing action in the midfield and as a forward. She fired off 12 shots, five landing on goal. Hyde came off the bench and netted her first collegiate goal against Pacific on Oct. 2.

The 2022 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Women's Soccer Teams recognize student-athletes for their success on the field and in the classroom. Linfield's six honorees will advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-Americans will be announced in December.
