McMINNVILLE, Ore. – After suffering a 5-0 loss to Oregon Tech on Sunday, the Linfield men's soccer team bounced back to claim its first victory of the season with a 3-1 win over Evergreen State on Monday night.
The Geoducks outshot the Wildcats 21-12 with eight shots on goal while the 'Cats had just four shots on goal. In the end, however, it was the 'Cats who ran away with a comfortable two-goal win.
Freshman midfielder
Seamus Miller fired in the first goal of the match for the 'Cats in the 13
th minute after the ball bounced off Evergreen State goalkeeper Tristan Glaser. Junior midfielder
Romario Mendoza was credited with the assist.
Mendoza continued to have himself a match, dribbling up the middle in the 17
th minute and scoring his first goal of the season. Matthew Jordan responded for the Geoducks in the 20
th with a wide-open goal to cut the deficit to one going into halftime.
The 'Cats set the tone again early in the second half when junior forward
Cesar Cruz-Espindola notched his first goal of the season off the cross from junior midfielder
Harrison Davis in the 55
th. The Linfield defense took care business from that point on to secure the win.
Sophomore
Peyton Frazier and junior
Julian Inches shared goalkeeping duties. Frazier picked up his first win of the season and made one save in 45 minutes while Inches entered the match in the second half and made six saves.

Linfield improves to 1-2-0 on the season to end its homestand. The 'Cats will hit the road for one last non-conference match on Sunday, Sept. 12, at Northwest (Wash.) in Kirkland. They open conference play at Whitman on Saturday, Sept. 18.
