Cruz-Espindola scores, 'Cats lose to Eagles

KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Linfield men's soccer team closed its non-conference schedule with a 2-1 loss at Northwest (Wash.) on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Wildcats struck first as junior forward Cesar Cruz-Espindola scored the opening goal, unassisted, in the eighth minute. Cruz-Espindola finished the match with three shots and two shots on goal.
 
Brayden Corwin scored the equalizer for the Eagles just 26 seconds later off an assist by Elliot Misic. Misic also had late-game heroics, notching the game-winning goal in the 87th minute off an assist by Ian Reynoso. Misic led the Eagles with six shots, three on goal.
 
The Eagles put up 23 shots and nine shots on goal to the 'Cats' 10 shots and four shots on goal. The 'Cats had seven shots in the first half but only managed to register three in the second half.
 
Junior Julian Inches and sophomore Peyton Frazier shared goalkeeping duties. Inches started and played the entire first half, making one save. Frazier entered the match in the second half and had three saves of his own.

Linfield falls to 1-3-0 with the loss. The 'Cats will look ahead to conference play, playing at Whitman on Saturday and at Whitworth on Sunday. The 'Cats were picked sixth with 19 points in the Northwest Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, released Sept. 2.
