Chauls scores first goal of season in loss to Bearcats

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Junior midfielder Izzy Chauls scored the equalizer for the Linfield women's soccer team, but Willamette responded with two late goals to down the Wildcats, 3-1, in the conference opener on Saturday.
 
Willamette controlled the ball for most of the match, finishing with 17 shots and 10 shots on goal while holding Linfield to nine shots, seven on goal. The Bearcats limited the Wildcats to one shot in the first half.
 
Aanya Friedeman opened the scoring for the Bearcats, finding an open shot up the middle and scoring her second goal of the season in the 52nd minute.
 
Chauls tied the match for the Wildcats in the 64th minute, dribbling up the middle and firing the ball to the top-left corner of the net. Chauls finished with two shots in 58 minutes. Junior forward Laney Green also registered two shots, both on goal.
 
Back-to-back goals by Nina Krassner-Cybulski in the 83rd and Clara Mattison in the 86th gave the Bearcats the lead and then some. Krassner-Cybulski picked up her own rebound off the crossbar for the tap-in while Mattison's goal was a deep shot from 32 yards out.
 
Rachel Compton picked up the win in goal for the Bearcats. She made six saves after entering the match after halftime. Linfield senior goalkeeper Alyssa Bakkensen played the entire 90 minutes, making seven saves.
 
NEXT
Linfield is 1-3-1 on the season and 0-1-0 in NWC play. The Wildcats will be right back in action on Sunday, hosting Lewis & Clark at noon.
 
LINFIELD COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
All individuals (age 12 and over) entering any athletics venue must provide proof of vaccination along with photo identification. Since all Linfield faculty, staff and students have completed this task in order to be on campus this fall, the Linfield individual must simply show their current Linfield ID.
 
Masks must be worn by all spectators at all times. Participants, including players, coaches, support staff and media on the sidelines, must wear masks throughout the duration of all athletic events, both indoor and outdoor, and during pregame and postgame activities.
