WALLA WALLA, Wash. – After a quiet first half, Whitman ran away with a 5-1 victory over the Linfield men's soccer team in their conference opener on Saturday afternoon.
The Blues, ranked No. 25 in the latest United Soccer Coaches national rankings, put up 19 shots and 11 shots on goal to the Wildcats' seven shots and three shots on goal. The Blues exploded for 14 shots in the second half.
Jacob Barsher had a two-goal match for the Blues, scoring the opening goal in the 62
nd minute, unassisted, before scoring the game-winner in the 68
th off an assist by Oscar Harding. Barsher led the Blues with six shots, two on goal.
Harding had himself a day as well. He scored the third goal for the Blues in the 84
th off an assist by Jacob Burrill. Harding then assisted on the last two insurance goals by Christian Gomez in the 87
th and Zachary Stonier in the 88
th.
Junior midfielder
Romario Mendoza scored the lone goal for the 'Cats in the 63
rd minute, assisted by junior defender
Ronan Krutzikowsky. It was Mendoza's second goal of the season.
Junior forward
Cesar Cruz-Espindola led the 'Cats with three shots.
Peyton Frazier played the entire 90 minutes in goal, finishing with six saves.

The Wildcats drop to 1-4-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in conference play. They will wrap up their road trip on Sunday, playing at Whitworth at 2:30 p.m.
