MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Sophomore forward
Alexis Heald had career-high 16 points for the Linfield Wildcats in their 61-53 loss to the George Fox Bruins at Ted Wilson Gym on Friday night.
Linfield led for the majority of the first half and had a 13-point lead, its largest in the game, at the 8:13 mark in the second quarter. Bruins outscored the Wildcats by 12 points in the second half to pick up their fourth win of the season.
The Wildcats led 31-27 at halftime, with Heald scoring 12 of the points. She also had four rebounds in the first half, as did
Delaney Ragan, who had four steals in the first half.
Shasta Lofgren was the leading scorer for the Wildcats in the second half with nine, she also had four rebounds in the second half. In the game, Lofgren had 12 points, Ragan had 10.
At the end of the first quarter, Linfield was 14-7 and hit two-straight 3-pointers to make it 20-7. First three was from
Janessa Yniguez, the other was from
Peyton Bergevin. George Fox went on an 11-0 run to make it 20-18 and ended the half on a 5-0 run.
A 3-pointer by
Maggie Smith gave Linfield a 40-39 at the 2:23 mark in the third which was the last lead of the game for Linfield.
Heald had seven rebounds for the Wildcats, Ragan and Lofgren had six. Bergevin had five and
Brooke Landis had three. Off the bench, Smith had six points.
Jordyn Feinauer and Yniguez had team-high three assists.
For the Bruins, Cassidy Posey had 11 points. Erin Yoshitake had 10 points and four rebounds, Jenna Lacey had eight points and six rebounds. Ella Roberts and Mackenzie Lewis had eight points as well, Roberts had seven rebounds, Lewis had six.
The loss on Friday night drops Linfield to 1-6 on the season and 1-4 in Northwest Conference play. George Fox is now 4-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference, it has won 26 straight meetings in this series.
