MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Dempsey Roggenbuck erupted for career-high 43 points and nine assists in the Linfield Wildcats' 111-97 win over the Pacific Boxers at Ted Wilson Gym.
Will Burghardt had season-high 26 points as well on Friday night.
Linfield has won four in a row and is now 4-1 overall and 2-1 in Northwest Conference play. The Wildcats handed the Boxers their first loss of the season, who are now 2-1 overall and in the conference.
Starting the game on a 12-2 run, Roggenbuck had eight of the points, Burghardt had two and
Jackson Dupree had two.
"Dempsey was sensational in all phases and played about as good a game as I could imagine. His nine assists and defensive rotations stood out to me as much as his point total," said coach
Shanan Rosenberg.
The Wildcats had 58-47 at halftime, Roggenbuck had half of the team's points on 11 for 15 shooting. Burghardt had 15 on 7 for 8 shooting in the first 20 minutes. Linfield as a team shot 62.9 percent in the first half and 62.5 percent in the game.
"
Will Burghardt was a monster for us tonight. He played an outstanding game in all phases as well, handling menacing pressure all night with poise, skill and consistent great decisions," said Rosenberg.
Carson Bonine had 11 points and five assists. Burghardt and
Max Lommen had four assists.
Aaron Baune,
Alex Jaczko and Bonine were tied for the team lead with five rebounds each. Baune had three steals, Burghardt and Roggenbuck had two steals each.
"Carson hit a huge 3-pointer after missing a couple free throws and showed how tough he is," said Rosenberg.
Running their traditional system of constant rotations, 17 Boxers appeared in the game. Brennan McNabb had 17 points, Ethan Moss had 14 points as did Mario Mora. Moss had six rebounds as well. Isaiah Africano and Colin Rardin had five rebounds each.
"We limited our live ball turnovers as best we could, you have to give Pacific a lot of credit for playing so hard and relentless," added Rosenberg.
Jaczko blocked two shots, Roggenbuck,
Kellen George and
Matt Berger had one each. Berger had three rebounds and four points as well. Dupree had five points and four rebounds, George and Jaczko had four points.
The total of 43 points surpasses Roggenbuck's previous career-high of 35 points. It was also the fourth most points scored in a single game in program history, two short of the program record. Friday night was the first time that a Wildcat scored more than 40 points since 1988.
The senior from Marin County, California, made 15 field goals, which is sixth most in program history. Burghardt finished four points shy of his career-high 30 points, that he had in 2019-20.
"We'll have to refresh fast and prepare for another hyper-pace game tomorrow night, it'll be a huge challenge," concluded Rosenberg.
Linfield has won six straight meetings over Pacific.
