'Cats winning streak improves to five

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – For the second night in a row, the Linfield Wildcats defeated the Pacific Boxers. On Saturday night at the Stoller Center, the final score was 105-87 in favor of the Wildcats.

After losing the season opener, Linfield has won five in a row, three of the wins have come against Northwest Conference opponents. The Boxers lose both games of the first of two series against the Wildcats this season and are now 2-2 on the season.

Linfield's largest lead of the game came in the second half at the 17:42 mark when it was leading by 23. Once again, the Wildcats were extremely efficient in their shot attempts, shooting 60 percent from the field and 46.2 percent in three-point attempts.

"I am super proud of our team tonight going on the road, really improving defensively and on the glass," said coach Shanan Rosenberg.

The Wildcats defense forced 18 turnovers and restricted the Boxers to shoot 42.1 percent from the field and 31 percent from beyond-the-arc.

Dempsey Roggenbuck was once again the leading scorer for the Wildcats, he had 32 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals. He has scored 30 points or more in four of the six games thus far this season.

His scoring average of 31.5 points per game is leaps and bounds above every other player in the conference. He was 13 for 19 in field goal attempts.

"Dempsey was again the beneficiary of many open court plays where he is as good anybody at our level," said Rosenberg.

Max Lommen was second on the team with 18 points, eight rebounds, three assists and four steals. Will Burghardt had 13 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

"Max Lommen had a huge turn around tonight and really played well. He and Will were incredible against their press and made great decisions all night," said Rosenberg.

Matt Berger turned in 11 points, six rebounds and two steals. Aaron Baune fell two points and a rebound short of a double double, he had eight points, nine rebounds and three assists. Alex Jaczko had 10 points off the bench, he played 22 minutes. Carson Bonine had eight rebounds.

"Matt Berger, Carson Bonine and Aaron Baune in particular did a ferocious job on the glass," added Rosenberg.

Colin Rardin had 21 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Boxers. Brennan McNabb had 15 points and three steals. Ethan Chung had 12 points, Ethan Moss had 12 points.

"A real turning point was with 5:50 left and Pacific had just made an 8-point run. Our team came out of a timeout and pushed our lead right back up with great defense and great decision making," concluded Rosenberg.

Linfield has won seven straight meetings over Pacific, which is one shy of the longest winning streak over Pacific in program history. The two teams have two more meetings this season.
