van der Sluis fires in game-winner against Blues

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – It's Jildou's world. We're all just living in it.

Freshman Jildou van der Sluis had herself a day, scoring the game-winning goal to lift the Linfield women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Whitman on Saturday at the Linfield University Soccer and Lacrosse Complex.

van der Sluis fired in the game-winner in the 86th minute on a free kick from 25 yards out. Whitman goalkeeper Emily Badgley got a hand on it but couldn't pick up the save as the ball bounced into the upper left corner of the net. It was van der Sluis' second goal of the season.

van der Sluis also assisted on the opening goal just 22 seconds into the match. She threaded the ball through the Whitman defense and connected with fellow freshman Kamahie Samudio, who put it away for her second goal of the season.

The Blues responded moments later to tie it. Carolina Gonzalez sent in a corner kick in the 10th minute and a Linfield defender headed the ball into the net for an own goal. Molly Beaulieu led the Blues with three shots, one on goal, while Lise Arrouye had two shots.

The Wildcats outshot the Blues 15-7 with five shots on goal. The Blues had three shots on goal and registered six of their shots in the first half. van der Sluis had a match-high five shots in 76 minutes while Samudio, junior Laney Green and freshmen Emily Hyde and Jordan Stoner all had two shots.

Freshman Sidra Griffin and junior Megan Sweeney played the full 90 minutes for the 'Cats. Junior Erin Isbister played the entire match in goal in her first start of the season, making two saves. She moved to 1-0-0 in goal with a 0.67 goals against average.
