McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Linfield men's basketball team reached the century mark and then some in a 114-61 win over Portland Bible to open the 2021-22 campaign Saturday night at Ted Wilson Gymnasium.
Linfield dropped 56 points in the first half and 58 in the second, shooting 58.9 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and 87.5 percent from the free throw line. The team scored 40 points in the paint and 37 points off 22 Portland Bible turnovers. The Linfield bench contributed 51 points in the win.
"It was great to be able to play so many guys tonight, but that happened because our top group played hard defensively and attacked with intelligence," head coach
Shanan Rosenberg said.
Senior guard
Dempsey Roggenbuck opened his fifth year with the program with a bang, scoring a game-high 28 points. He connected on 11 of 16 from the field, 3 of 7 from deep and 3 of 3 from the charity stripe while also contributing five assists, a rebound and a steal. Roggenbuck was named a Fourth Team Preseason All-American by D3hoops.com.
Fellow senior guard
Max Lommen totaled 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal while freshman guard
Trey Bryant had 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal as he filled in for an injured
Carson Bonine. Sophomore guard
JT Estes just missed double figures with nine points.
"Dempsey and Max were incredibly efficient and Trey did a brilliant job stepping in for Carson," Rosenberg said. "I loved seeing how comfortable and in sync the group was, and I can't say enough about how Trey handled his role as a freshman. He's a special person and player."
Linfield held Portland Bible to 38.5 percent shooting from the field and 31.6 percent from long range. Three starters scored in double digits, led by 17 points by Nalu Kanalulu. Kanalulu also had five rebounds in 24 minutes. Tommy Pham finished with 15 points and six rebounds while Rudy Massaad had 10 points and five rebounds.

Linfield (1-0) will head to California to play at La Verne on Tuesday. The Wildcats will continue their road trip against Pomona-Pitzer on Friday and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday in the David Wells Classic in Claremont.
"We look forward to going to compete against some excellent teams and programs in Southern California next week," Rosenberg said.
