'Cats pick up first win in NWC play at Whitman

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Junior Laney Green scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season and freshman Jildou van der Sluis registered her first collegiate goal as the Linfield women's soccer team picked up its first win in Northwest Conference play with a 2-1 victory over Whitman on Saturday afternoon at the Whitman Athletic Fields.

Green scored the opening goal in the 26th minute off an assist by freshman midfielder Emily Hyde. Green's four goals are tied for third in the Northwest Conference.

Although Whitman outshot Linfield 10-3 with five shots on goal, it was the Wildcats who made their shots count. Van der Sluis' goal came in the 69th minute, assisted by junior midfielder Izzy Chauls. It was Chauls' second assist on the season.

Sophomore Chaney Heinbaugh scored the Blues' lone goal in the 80th minute, assisted by senior Esmeralda Galvan. Junior Elizabeth Williams and freshman Molly Beaulieu led the Blues with two shots apiece. Both of Williams' shots were on goal.

Hyde, junior defender Megan Sweeney and senior defender Ashley Guldager all played the full 90 minutes for the 'Cats. Sophomore Emma Mulligan played the entire 90 minutes in goal for the 'Cats in her first match of the fall. She moved to 1-0-0 in goal after making four saves.
