'Cats split weekend with 2-0 loss at Whitworth

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Linfield women's soccer team was looking to go back-to-back following Saturday's win at Whitman, but the Wildcats took a 2-0 loss at Whitworth on Sunday afternoon at the Whitworth University Soccer Field.

Whitworth scored in both the opening and closing moments of the match. Senior Gabriella Coprivnicar scored her fifth goal of the season just 11 seconds in to give the Pirates an early lead. She stole the ball at the start of the match and fired it into the corner of the net.

Junior Maggie Ames notched the second goal for the Pirates in the 89th minute, unassisted. The ball bounced off the crossbar and Ames was there to send it home. Ames and Coprivnicar finished with two shots apiece.

Whitworth outshot Linfield 18-4 with three shots on goal. The 'Cats had four shots and one shot on goal by junior forward Laney Green, who led the team with three shots in 56 minutes. Sophomore defender Raylynn Bucher registered the other shot.

Junior defender Megan Sweeney, junior midfielder Emma Sammartino and senior defender Ashley Guldager all played the full 90 minutes. Guldager has played 90 or more minutes in nine of Linfield's 12 matches. Sophomore Emma Mulligan played the entire match in goal, making one save.
