Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Wildcats fall 3-0 to first-place Lutes

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Linfield men's soccer team will have to wait for Sunday to pick up its first win in Northwest Conference play as the Wildcats lost to first-place Pacific Lutheran, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at the Linfield University Soccer and Lacrosse Complex.

The Lutes racked up 22 shots and 10 shots on goal with 14 of those shots coming in the second half. The Lutes also had 15 corner kicks while the 'Cats had none. The 'Cats finished with four shots and one shot on goal.

It was the Archie Caldwell show for the Lutes as the senior registered his first multi-goal performance of the season. Caldwell finished with three shots, all on goal. He scored the opening goal in the 38th minute off an assist by Alex White then notched the second goal in the 66th, assisted by Brandt Kelly.

Kelly followed his assist with a goal of his own in the 89th, assisted by Keegan Dolan. It was Kelly's fifth goal of the season. He led the Lutes with four shots, two on goal, in just 27 minutes.

Opportunities to score were hard to come by for the 'Cats thanks to a strong defensive effort by the Lutes. Junior forward Cesar Cruz-Espindola led the 'Cats with two shots while freshman midfielder Seamus Miller and freshman forward Cameron Gaines registered the team's other two shots.

Junior Julian Inches played the entire 90 minutes in goal and had his work cut out for him with a season-high seven saves, bringing his season total to 27. Lucas Hempen improved to 2-0-0 in goal for the Lutes in just his second start, making one save in the shutout.
