Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Miller scores twice in Wildcats' 2-2 tie with Loggers

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – Seamus Miller had himself a nice Sunday afternoon in the Linfield men's soccer team's 2-2 tie with Puget Sound after double overtime at Linfield University's Soccer and Lacrosse Complex.

The freshman midfielder had a two-goal match against the Loggers, scoring goals in the 33rd and 44th minutes. The first goal was assisted by junior forward Connor Heintz. Miller led the Wildcats with six shots and five shots on goal in 92 minutes of action. He exited the match in the 94th after being issued a red card.

Lincoln Schell scored the opening goal for the Loggers in the 22nd minute off a corner kick by Shane Ivich. Cale Spence fired in the match-tying goal on a free kick at the top of the box in the 67th to send it to overtime.

The 'Cats had back-to-back scoring opportunities in the 81st. Miller nearly registered his third goal of the match, but UPS goalkeeper Ryan Saunders saved it. Freshman forward Cameron Gaines picked up the deflection and took a shot of his own, but Saunders came up with another huge save to eliminate the threat.

A crucial foul in the box called against the 'Cats in the 106th gave Spence a penalty kick for the Loggers, but Linfield junior goalkeeper Julian Inches made a clutch diving save to allow the 'Cats to clear the ball. Inches played the entire 110 minutes in goal, making five saves.

The Loggers outshot the 'Cats 20-12 with seven shots on goal while the 'Cats had nine shots on goal. The Loggers also had seven corner kicks to the 'Cats' one. Six 'Cats played all 110 minutes.

NEXT
Linfield snapped a six-match skid with the tie to move to 1-8-1 overall and 0-5-1 in Northwest Conference play. Puget Sound is now 3-5-2 on the season with a 2-2-2 NWC mark.

The 'Cats will play just one match next week, hosting Willamette at 2:30 p.m. on Homecoming Saturday.
