Guldager's golden goal leads 'Cats to win in Salem

SALEM, Ore. – The Linfield women's soccer team needed to make a statement going into the second half of Northwest Conference play, and the Wildcats did just that with a 2-1 overtime victory over Willamette on Saturday afternoon at Sparks Field.
 
Senior defender Ashley Guldager fired in the golden goal for the Wildcats in the 93rd minute off her own corner kick. She is second on the team with three goals. Guldager finished the match with two shots in 93 minutes.
 
After a scoreless first half, junior defender Joleigh Miller put Willamette on the board, also scoring a goal off her own corner kick in the 60th minute. It was her first goal of the season. Miller finished with two shots, one on goal, while freshman Nina Krassner-Cybulski also had two shots, both on goal.
 
Freshman forward Lili Lucas tied the match for the Wildcats in the 79th, scoring her first goal in her fifth appearance of the season. Lucas sent in her shot from six yards out following a scramble after a corner kick.
 
Linfield racked up the shots, reaching double digits for the third time this season. The Wildcats totaled 19 shots with 10 on goal while limiting the Bearcats to five shots and four shots on goal. The Wildcats had nine corner kicks, including two in overtime.
 
Linfield junior forward Laney Green had a match-high five shots with two shots on goal. Lucas, sophomore midfielder Jill Leroux and junior forward Callie Kawaguchi had two shots each alongside Guldager. Sophomore Emma Mulligan played the entire match in goal, making three saves to improve to 2-1-0 this fall.
 
NEXT
Linfield improved to 3-8-2 on the season with a 2-6-1 Northwest Conference mark. The Wildcats will stay on the road in Oregon, playing at Lewis & Clark at noon on Sunday.
