Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

'Cats open Tacoma road trip with loss to Loggers

TACOMA, Wash. – The Linfield men's soccer team opened the second half of Northwest Conference play with a 2-0 loss to Puget Sound on Saturday afternoon at Baker Stadium.
 
Sophomore Marko Babiak scored his fifth goal of the season, unassisted, in the 19th minute to open the scoring for the Loggers. Fellow sophomore Ryan Smith notched the insurance goal in the 65th, assisted by senior Cale Spence. It was Smith's third goal of the season. Spence finished with a match-high four shots, three on goal, while Babiak had all three of his shots on goal.
 
The Wildcats put six of their seven shots on goal but were outshot by the Loggers, who tallied 16 shots, 14 on goal. The Loggers had 13 corner kicks to the Wildcats' four.
 
Sophomore midfielder Ruben Lopez and junior forward Connor Heintz finished with two shots apiece to lead the 'Cats. Both of Lopez's shots were on goal while Heintz had one shot on goal. Lopez and Heintz were among seven 'Cats who played the entire 90 minutes.
 
Junior Julian Inches fell to 0-5-1 in goal for the 'Cats. He made 10 saves in the loss, bringing his season total to 53, which leads the NWC.
 
NEXT
Linfield is 1-10-1 with a 0-7-1 Northwest Conference record. The 'Cats will wrap up their Tacoma road trip on Sunday, playing at Pacific Lutheran at 2:30 p.m. The Lutes are tied with Willamette atop the conference standings with a 6-2-0 NWC mark.
