McMINNVILLE, ORE. – With two strikes and two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning,
Treve Earhart hit a walk-off single down the left field line that scored
Brian Cromwell from second to give the Linfield Wildcats a 4-3 win over the Lewis & Clark Pioneers, 4-3. The game-winning hit tied the series for Linfield tied the series at a game apiece after the 'Cats fell to the Pios, 3-2 in Game 1 of the three-game series. The split bumps Linfield to 5-22 overall (3-16 NWC). Lewis & Clark is now 8-21 on the year (3-14 NWC).
GAME 1
- Lewis & Clark jumped to an early lead in the first two innings. Jack Thompson walked with the bases loaded for the first run of the game. Linfield would escape the inning on a double play with the second out of the turn coming by way of interference up the first baseline.
- With the bases loaded again in the second, Jacob Serifini reached on a Linfield error that scored Tyler Gannon from third. Later in the inning, Cameron Fox lost his footing on a fly-ball to center and the Pios scored another run on the rare error in center.
- The 'Cats got on the board in the third when Brian Cromwell stole second, the throw down sailed and allowed Ayden Allen to score on the play.
- Cason Cunningham started from the rubber for the 'Cats. He threw four innings where he allowed three runs on four hits and struck out six. He fell to 0-7 on the season.
- Wilson Miles took over for Cunningham in the fifth. The lefty threw 4.1 innings of four-hit ball where he did not allow a run, walked one and struck out three in long-relief. Matt McDonald was also used in the 3-2 loss.
- Linfield scored again in the seventh on a single by Cromwell through the left side of the infield. Cameron Fox scored to make it a 3-2 game.
- Jordan Gonzalez started for the Pios. He threw 6.2 innings where he allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out two. Robert Reaser and Austin Conniff also threw in the game. Conniff retired the last four batters where he didn't allow a run. He recorded his fourth save of 2019.
- Lewis & Clark held off the 'Cats and went on to take the first game of the series, 3-2.
GAME 2
- Colton Meyer started on the mound for the Wildcats. Lewis & Clark scored early in the first after Matt Donavan singled to start the game, he later scored on a wild pitch.
- Linfield took the lead in the fifth. A fielder's choice from Brian Cromwell paired with an error from the Pios pushed Ben Ranieri home to tie the game at 1-1. Later with two outs, Tanner Earhart singled through the left side and brought home Brian Cromwell from second.
- Meyer pitched into the eighth inning. He finished with seven innings pitched where he allowed two runs on five hits. Meyer struck out four and walked four.
- Cooper Larson gave the Pioneers the lead in the eighth. A double off the glove of a diving attempt by Tanner Earhart at the warning track in left center field scored Matt Donovan and Joey Oda.
- In the bottom of the frame, Linfield nearly retook the lead. A single into left field from Kurt Potter brought home Connor Callanan to tie the game, 3-3. A safety squeeze off the bat of Cameron Fox almost scored Tanner Earhart from third on a bang-bang play at home plate.
- A one-two-three ninth inning from Linfield reliever Liam Herlihy set the 'Cats up for a walk-off win.
- In the bottom of the ninth Brian Cromwell reached with one out on a single down the line in left. With two outs, Treve Earhart laced an RBI single down the line in left, scoring Cromwell for the walk-off win.
- The win for Linfield snaps a 12-game losing streak.
