SPOKANE, WASH. -- Linfield traveled to take on Whitworth in their first Northwest Conference competition on Sunday, March 17
th. The Wildcats earned their first victory of the season, 22-3 and improve to 1-2 overall. Linfield had a dominate first half and took the pressure off in the second half but still managed to dominate the game. The Wildcats also broke a program record of goals scored in a single game with 22.
First Half
The 'Cats started out with a two- goal lead as
Jenna Hessel and
Gabriella Moe scored back-to-back goals within 37 seconds of each other. Whitworth managed to get their first goal of the game and only one of the first half. The Wildcats went on to score 14 unanswered goals to end the first half. Moe had four goals in the first half, Hessel added three goals, while
Maia Rezoski added two goals.
Second Half
Linfield started off the second half where they left off as
Nathaly Sanchez scored on a man up goal in the first five minutes. The Pirates added their second goal of the game before the Wildcats'
Alex Jensen added two more goals. Hessel,
Bethany Shade, and Jensen all scored again before Whitworth scored their third and final goal of the game.
